That bucket list though

For this assignment, we are to make a bucket list of things we want to do and why they are on your list.

I’ve made bucket list before, and for the most part have accomplished all of them. For example, I wanted to jump out of airplanes and now I do with the Army. When that wasn’t enough, I went skydiving. Then I became an Army Jumpmaster, so I could be the one getting people of of the aircraft. These are more goals than bucket list. Bucket Lists sometimes come off that things that may not happen or are too far fetched. Nope. If I want to do it, it’s getting done.

Here are some new goals:

1) See the northern lights in Norway.

This has been at the top of the list for some time. I could see them in other places, but I’ve always been fasinated with Norway. This is basically two goals.

2) Own my own dog park and shelter

There is a lot to this goal. I want to own a piece of land that serves as a dog park with a shelter on site. I currently volunteer with the local rescue, and its pretty much runs on the backs of fosters because they don’t have their own location. They are new and hopefully they will get something in the future. However, why the dog park and shelter? Well, have you ever been to an adoption event? You see the puppers and cats in crates and you really don’t know what their personalities are like in that environment. My mission with the dog park is to get these pups exercised, socialized, and ADOPTED by people who can take them for a walk and really decide if they want them. Sometimes dogs will get adopted and then returned because they weren’t the dog they interacted with at the pet store. It’s just sad.

Goals

3) Become a mom before I turn 40

How can this be on a bucket list? It’s normal to have kids, right?

I’m in my early 30s. My husband and I have always been career driven, and we don’t intend to stop. There will be sacrfices we will have to make in order to make this happen, but there will be a cutoff date. Ha. ]]

4) Go on trip around the world

I mean who doesn’t want to see the world? My husband and I have both been fortunate enough to travel with the military. Some places were greats, and others not so much. It would be great to visit every continent on our own.

5) Invent something.

This is probably the most far fetched item on my list. I don’t have any idea what I would invent, but I hope that when the day comes when I need something unavailable on the market that I’m smart enough to notice it, and create something that will be useful to everyone.

Translation

Mom,

This week I chose an assignment that asks that you write a letter to your mother. I thought it was a good idea. I hope you like it, and try not to cry because I know you cry a lot.

First I want to thank you for always supporting me in all my craziness. For always loving me even when I sometimes, and especially in my youth when I drove you crazy. I want to remind you that everything I have accomplished has been because of you. If it weren’t for your sacrifices, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I know you miss me, and I know it hurts that you can’t see me as often because I’ve been in the Army. I also know you worry about us, but I also know you I am strong because I got that strength from you. I know you’re proud that I’ve followed my dreams.

Thank you for being a person who gives everything from the heart. For being a person that finds the good in everything. For asking questions before passing judgement. That is the part of my personality that I love because I learned it from you.

I love you so much mommy. May God bless you.

With love,

Your daughter Lily

Haiku Recipe

This Writing Assignment asks you to write a recipe in only Haiku format. It is a 3 star assignment, but I would have rated it a 4. It wasn’t easy to keep all the main elements of the recipe without going away from the 5-7-5 format. I did it.

I decided to find a common 80s recipe. I went with the Sloppy Joe, or also known as Manwich in the 80s.

Sloppy Joe Yum
To make it you will need these
One pound of ground beef
One tablespoon oil
Half cup of onion yum
Half cup tomato
Half cup celery
Two garlic cloves chopped up love
Quarter cup ketchup
Tablespoon red wine
Two cups tomato sauce dear
Tablespoon mustard
A little sugar
Four hamburger buns for us
Salt pepper to taste
Then brown the ground beef
Add onions celery
Add the garlic now
Then add the ketchup
The tomato sauce slowly
Worcestershire sauce stir
Finally mustard
Sugar salt and pepper now
Simmer until done
Slightly toast buns now
Add sloppy joe mix to them
Serve and enjoy now

Emotional Lyrics

The Emotinal Lyrics assignment (3 stars) asks you to choose an emotion, then find 3 songs that evoke that emotion and explain why it makes you feel that way. I chose to look for 80s songs that remind me push through tough moments.

Flashdance (What a Feeling) by Irene Cara (1983)

Ok, so if you’ve seen the cheasy movie Flashdance (1983) you know it’s about a girl who dreams of becoming a dancer even though she doesn’t have any formal training. Skip through the drama and love quarrel, she ends up going to a dance audition in front of some pretty snooting folks who looked bored to be there. She stumbles in the begining, but starts again and totally kills it. The most motivational part of the song are the lyrics, “take your passion and make it happen, pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life, what a feeling.” And you know, that’s just how I’m trying to get through life. Just dancing along. Also, OMG Irene Cara’s voice!

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor ( 1982)

How can I talk about motivational and fighting the craziness of days without mentioning Eye of the Tiger? This is the second time I’m referencing it on my blog because it is just one of my favorites.

I remember driving back from an Army training site 30 miles from my house around 11pm, and seeing people running down a two-lane highway. I realized they were participants of 50 mile marathon. Insane. Anyway, I decided to play this song with my windows down. I doubt they heard it because most of them were likely wearing headphones, but in the event they weren’t, I hoped it would give them a little boost as it always does for me.

Contigo Quiero Estar – Selena (1989)

This is more of an honorary mention because the song itself isn’t necessary one that inspires me to take on the challenges of the day, but it is important to me to find link what I can to my roots.

As a Latina from Texas, I grew up listening to Selena. Everyone listened to her, and still do. She was one of our most famous representatives. The song Contigo Quiero Estar, is one of my absolute favorites of hers. I was listening to a playlist of her music, and decided to look up when this song came out. Turns out it is from her 1989 album.

Selena was, and still is such an inspiration to all of us, so even though the song is more about love and wanting that love, her very voice motivates me.
