The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the 80s is my sweet and totally rocking mother. She was born in ’68 so the 80s were and still are her jam…eyeshadow and all.
For this post I decided to interview her about the 80s then and now.
LV: Thank you for taking a moment to talk about the 80s with me. You’re the coolest.
LV: So this semester the theme for my class is 80s pop culture and what it means today. I’d like to start off this by asking what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the 80s?
IG: I really think about the music.
LV: What music did you listen to? Who were your favorite artist at the time?
IG: Journey, Duran Duran, David Bowie and ugh so many others.
LV: What about movies? Did you and your siblings ever go out?
IG: No, we didn’t really go out so all we really had at the time was the radio. Seldomly was I allowed to go to my friends house. When I did we would talk about music. And magazines. I had stacks and stacks of magazines.
LV: What was it about the magazines that you had so many?
IG: We used to look through the magazines for the fashion trends. My sisters and I would sew our own clothes to match the fashion.
LV: Speaking of fashion. Do you notice any trends from the 80s in todays fashion?
IG: I can’t think of anything. Maybe the fanny packs.
LV: What is the best thing that happened to you in the 80s?
IG: Um, I don’t know…let me think.
LV: Really? You can’t think of one thing?
I was born in ’88. She quickly realized what I was getting at and laughs.
IG: I thought we were still on the topic of my time in school. Of course you. You were my little baby.
LV: Thanks for answering my questions.
IG: Of course. Now I want to play Journey.
And she did, you guys.
She didn’t really have much to say about the 80s and what it means now, but I do have some thought on that. I think we can all agree that we are seeing 80s pop culture in recent TV series such as Stranger Things or bringing back the Star Wars franchise. We see it in fashion as my mom suggested.
I’m interested to read everyone’s thoughts and ideas on the 80s. It should be fun and interesting.
Tell me what you think about my post. Do you think the interview was cool, helpful or could it use some work? Leave suggestions!
